Did you see “Somebody Had to Say It”? It’s the new comedy special from Jim Breuer. Here’s my review.
I was working out at a gym that overlooked a swimming pool and thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. The heat and humidity on that day were beyond oppressive. There before me was a lone sunbather, with not a single soul in sight. Are you surprised when I tell you they had a medical mask on?
You’ve probably observed similar things. Like when I went to eat at a Cracker Barrel and saw a family of three, double-masked, blue surgical gloves. The man even had medical goggles on. Upon sitting down, they all shed every bit of the COVID protective gear and struck up an up close and personal lengthy conversation with their server.
Jim Breuer’s “Somebody Had to Say It” was filmed in front of a live audience
It does no good to get annoyed, it’s in moments like these that the best and healthiest reaction is laughter. Someone who would concur is comedian and SNL alum Jim Breuer. In the past three weeks, Breuer’s comedy special “Somebody Had to Say It,” has gathered more than 800,000 views on YouTube. Filmed at The Paramount in Huntington, New York, it’s completely free to watch.
I don’t know about you, but the past 2 years have been one head-scratching development after another. It’s not just asinine responses to COVID. If there’s a new normal, it’s that asking reasonable questions about public policy and social standards is taboo.
Jim Breuer uses comedy to try to understand
“I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” Breuer remarked towards the beginning of the special. If the present has taught me anything, it’s that just because something is absurd doesn’t mean people won’t stand in line to buy it.
After watching Jim Breuer’s special, I am convinced the most effective antidote to absurdity is comedy. Breuer has mastered the art of spotlighting the hilarity and insanity of COVID mania, cancel culture, and other nonsensical trends better than anyone.
“Somebody Had to Say It” shows Jim Breuer at his best
Jim Breuer’s physical comedy and ability to mimic is on a whole new level. He’s hysterically funny and full of energy. In the beginning, I thought the audio seemed to be low, but soon realized it was purposefully. Breuer uses the dynamics of soft and loud to great, hilarious effect.
In 1 hour, 6 minutes Breur finds common sense, laughs, and a bit of meaning “in this crazy lifetime we’re living.” I get a sense that Breuer is a live and let live kind of guy, but silence gets you nowhere in an era of diktats, mob mentality, and illogical reasoning.
Jim Breuer’s “Somebody Had to Say It” heads to 1 million views
It’s a tremendous relief when you hear the truth, especially when so few are willing to speak it. Jim Breuer’s “Somebody Had to Say It…” is the relief we need. I hope you’ll be one of the first million people to watch it.
